First Day of Spring!

and 85 degrees today! Indiana is in full bloom. It seems like out of nowhere trees are covered in blossoms or budding leaves. Just a few days ago they all had bare branches. We have had the windows open since last week and it makes me so happy to feel fresh air breezing through the house and to hear birds outside chirping away. They kids and I have spent a ton time outside-just enjoying being out of the house. I spend a lot of this past weekend working in the yard. The home’s prior owner once had the yard nicely landscaped, and I bet it was beautiful. She neglected to keep up with it though, and a massive overgrowth of weeds took over. Last Fall my Mom and Dad removed 3 truckloads full of nasty weeds.  Once removed, we were surprised to find lots of nice tall ornamental grasses and Hibiscus plants.  And now I’m excited to see what kinds of plants we will have popping up this spring and summer.  Like these.  We have 2 of these gorgeous Japanese Magnolias. We also have 2 weeping cherry trees.  DSC_0055

My yard has the potential to be so pretty! I’m motivated to work hard this spring and summer to get it looking like it should.  Maybe if I plan to blog about it with some before and after pictures-I’ll stay motivated. hopefully.

Here’s what I’ve got so far…

Here is the house before we moved in.  You can’t really tell by the picture, but those bushes in the front were covered in brown spots and looked really bad up close. We pulled them up and replaced them with some boxwoods.  Holy cow, that was a lot of work! The old bushes had been there awhile and their roots where very thick and spread far out. It took awhile to dig them up. The new bushes look small now but in 3-4 years I think they will be the perfect size. DSC_0120DSC_0104

Vincent turns 2!

Seems like the past 2 years have blown by. My baby boy isn’t a baby anymore! We celebrated Vincent’s birthday with a small get together with my mom & dad and my brother, Chris.  Vincent loves robots so I decided to make a robot cake (thank you bettycrocker.com for the idea).

Vincent got some new fun toys- a walking, talking toy robot, some letters/numbers blocks, and a bunch of Cars (the movie) toys.DSC_0152DSC_0154DSC_0156DSC_0161DSC_0162DSC_0166DSC_0173
The cake was a hit. Vincent kept saying “Bobot Cake! Bobot Cake!” over and over. and while he didn’t eat much cake, he did eat a ton of icing and almost all of the candy decorations on top.
V wearing only a diaper and cape, holding a tangerine.  Looking a bit like a magician?

Project 365 2012!

I recently to a look back at my daily photos from 2010 and have realized that it really is a great way to record the year. It's neat to look back at the end of the 365 days and see how the kids have grown and changed, and also remember all of the little things that happened that I would have probably forgotten had I not taken a picture. And this time it will be easier and less time consuming than last. I've discovered some awesome photo apps on my iphone (instagram, photogene, camera+) that will let me edit and send the pictures directly to my flickr account. So here we go:)

snow day!

Elora has been wishing for snow for weeks and today her wish finally came true. She was in heaven as she made snow balls, snow angels, and a snow man (actually Snow Queen-her idea). This was Vincent’s first time playing in the snow…He enjoyed himself for about 5 minutes before he was ready to call it quits. I spent more time bundling him up than he spent outside. Elora would have stayed out all day if I hadn’t bribed her to come back inside with a mug of hot chocolate.
