Vincent's First Trip to the Emergency Room

(and hopefully not the first of many)

We noticed Vincent wasn't using his right arm. And when he did, he would cry and point towards his wrist.  It didn't appear to be bruised, swollen, etc. so we weren't sure what was wrong. No one saw him fall down and hurt himself but I thought maybe he had sprained it by falling on it somehow.  He's always climbing and jumping on everything in the house. It definitely didn't look broken.  Also, he didn't seem to be in constant pain-he was still smiling and laughing for the most part. But if he moved his hurt arm, he would cry out. Mom came over to check on him and decided we probably should get him to the ER to be looked out. We wrapped his wrist and made him a sling out of a scarf to hold his arm still for the car ride over.

After XRays and about 3 hours of waiting around, the doctor met with us and explained he thought maybe Vincent had dislocated his elbow. It's common for children to complain of pain in their wrist with this type of injury-I guess because of the where the nerves are located. The Doc had me hold on to V and said "put your arm around him this is going to hurt".  He grabbed hold of his elbow, twisted his arm up and Click! It was back in place and Vincent was using his arm again within 30 seconds!  All better. They gave his a dose of Tylenol and some stickers and we where all done.  Good as new:)

First Day of Spring!

and 85 degrees today! Indiana is in full bloom. It seems like out of nowhere trees are covered in blossoms or budding leaves. Just a few days ago they all had bare branches. We have had the windows open since last week and it makes me so happy to feel fresh air breezing through the house and to hear birds outside chirping away. They kids and I have spent a ton time outside-just enjoying being out of the house. I spend a lot of this past weekend working in the yard. The home’s prior owner once had the yard nicely landscaped, and I bet it was beautiful. She neglected to keep up with it though, and a massive overgrowth of weeds took over. Last Fall my Mom and Dad removed 3 truckloads full of nasty weeds.  Once removed, we were surprised to find lots of nice tall ornamental grasses and Hibiscus plants.  And now I’m excited to see what kinds of plants we will have popping up this spring and summer.  Like these.  We have 2 of these gorgeous Japanese Magnolias. They smell like perfume! DSC_0052

We also have 2 weeping cherry trees.  DSC_0055

My yard has the potential to be so pretty! I’m motivated to work hard this spring and summer to get it looking like it should.  Maybe if I plan to blog about it with some before and after pictures-I’ll stay motivated. hopefully.

Here’s what I’ve got so far…

Here is the house before we moved in.  You can’t really tell by the picture, but those bushes in the front were covered in brown spots and looked really bad up close. We pulled them up and replaced them with some boxwoods.  Holy cow, that was a lot of work! The old bushes had been there awhile and their roots where very thick and spread far out. It took awhile to dig them up. The new bushes look small now but in 3-4 years I think they will be the perfect size. DSC_0120DSC_0104

Vincent turns 2!

Seems like the past 2 years have blown by. My baby boy isn’t a baby anymore! We celebrated Vincent’s birthday with a small get together with my mom & dad and my brother, Chris.  Vincent loves robots so I decided to make a robot cake (thank you bettycrocker.com for the idea).

Vincent got some new fun toys- a walking, talking toy robot, some letters/numbers blocks, and a bunch of Cars (the movie) toys.DSC_0152DSC_0154DSC_0156DSC_0161DSC_0162DSC_0166DSC_0173
The cake was a hit. Vincent kept saying “Bobot Cake! Bobot Cake!” over and over. and while he didn’t eat much cake, he did eat a ton of icing and almost all of the candy decorations on top.
